From a small family run business with roots tracing back over 110 years Thackers Commercial Limited is now one of the North of England's premier Powder Coating companies and resides in a 18,000 sqft factory in Leeds.

We can handle lengths of up to 10m and have two large box ovens along with a conveyor ovens for batch work.

Fast Turnaround

We pride ourselves in being able to meet our customers delivery schedules and understand that 24 – 48 hour turnaround is not unusual. Having a shift starting at 3am gives us great flexibility to meet your deadlines.

Understanding that tight deadlines and rush jobs are the nature of the industry, we also offer an Express Service where your job can be turned around within 2 hours.

As powder coating is the final stage in the manufacturing process our aim is to meet your deadlines and so reduce your stress levels.

Chosen by Drew Pritchard and his team at Salvage Hunters Classic Cars, Thackers were proud to stove enamel the wire wheels on a MGA Coupe helping to transform it, cost effectively, into a very desirable "rally look" MGA.

Thackers stripped and primed the brand new wire wheels, then etch primed them before applying by a high gloss black stove enamel which both looks incredible and will last a lifetime. For the full story, click on the video below:

Powder Coating

Powder coating is an advanced process of electro–statically applying powder consisting of finely ground resin and pigment to any surface (including virtually all metals) that can withstand a temperature of 400° F. The coated item is then placed in a curing oven where the powder "melts" to the surface resulting in a high quality, long lasting finish.

Items that are powder coated last longer because the finish is far more resistant to scratching, chipping, harsh chemicals, fading, rusting and wearing than other finishes. Powder coating doesn't last forever, but usually lasts many times longer than any other coating. It also is usually a much thicker coating than you would obtain with paint.

The key to ensuring a beautiful high quality finish is the preparation and cleaning of the item. Thackers accomplish a perfect clean using various methods such as sandblasting, degreasing and/or chemical stripping. Once cleaned, the powder coating is applied using a special gun that gives the powder an electrical charge as it is sprayed onto the item to be coated. The item is then cured in an oven until the coating is bonded and fused into a smooth coating.

You can be assured that our powder coating process is environmentally friendly and, unlike paint, there is no drying time. We recommend that when possible, coated items should be unused for 6 or 7 days after powder coating to ensure a complete "cure".

Thackers also offer an iron phosphating service for small and large components for steel, including plated steel, galvanised steel, zinc plated components and zintec.

We offer colour choices of powder coating which are virtually unlimited, with high and low gloss, clear and metallic, as well as textured finishes which can range from smooth to wrinkled, matt or rough textures which hide surface imperfections.

It should be noted that whilst almost any colour can be obtained, the same colour matching limitations that apply to liquid paints apply to powder coating colours. Most notably, is that of exactly matching one lot of powder to a previous lot cannot be guaranteed.

Stove Enamelling

Thackers' stove enamelling process produces a high quality and durable finish. We use our specialist application techniques to ensure that our stove enamelling offers excellent corrosion resistance and durability.

We prepare the item in our factory prior to spraying the parts, then curing by heat treatment in our specialist ovens. Our factory has all the necessary equipment, expertise and experience to guarantee your total satisfaction when it comes to stove enamelling.

If you item is going to be subjected to high temperatures, chemicals or harsh offshore environments, we would always recommend stove enamelling as the preferred coating and process.

Stove enamelling can be used on the majority of metals and we highly recommend this process for any items which are likely to be exposed to the elements.
